The Future is Now

‘The Future is Now’ is a faux-documentary that takes place in the year 2050, 30 years after Joe Biden had been elected President of the United States. It focuses on a mother who has grown up in a society that emphasized urgency around climate change, and pushed President Biden’s administration to action.

*Vice President Kamala Harris’ voiceover can be heard saying, “We did it, Joe... we did it.”

*Harris’ voice fades out as a quote fades in*

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”

*quote fades out and the scene comes into focus*

The setting is a modest but modern home. Natural light floods the room. Greenery sits in the background. The faint sound of children playing and laughing can be heard filling the adjacent rooms. A young woman walks into the foreground, takes a seat, and gets comfortable as she states her name for the record.

The interviewer invites the woman to relay her message for the video. The woman begins speaking into the camera, to an unnamed person, and thanks “him” for the work he’s done in addressing climate change. She begins to cite specific legislation and initiatives and the impact they had on her life. She finally mentions Joe Biden by name and echoes Harris’ comments… “We did it, Joe... we did it.” This documentary is a posthumous thank you message to the former president.

The woman was born in 2015 and is speaking to us from the year 2050, as a beneficiary of the aggressive climate change policy that Biden pushed forward in his first 100 days as president. She was just a five-year-old girl when Joe Biden was elected, and she was in the crowd when he gave his victory speech in Wilmington. We flash back to that night as she reminisces.

She continues speaking, hopefully and optimistically, as we cut to a montage of Americans of all races, ethnicities, religions and orientations enjoying a higher quality of life at environmental heritage sites, national parks and beaches.

She goes on to explain that this success only came to fruition because everyday Americans who bear the brunt of climate change held the Biden Administration accountable, and she encourages viewers to continue exercising their voice. The video ends on a hopeful note.

#TheFutureIsNow appears along with a link to a White House petition and an invitation to share the message across social channels. The site will also offer a tool that tells you who your legislators are based on your address and helps you write letters or make calls to them to apply pressure at all levels of government.
